Academics
Recognizing that every student is unique, we champion individualized learning paths. Cottonwood offers a variety of instructional programs, including innovative virtual classes designed exclusively for our homeschool community and taught by our supportive teachers.
At The Cottonwood School, assessments monitor progress, inform personalized learning, and guide instruction. As a public charter school, students participate in required state and in-house testing:
- In-house assessment: All students (TK-12) choose between iReady (twice a year) or Renaissance Star 360 (three times a year) to measure growth and proficiency in language arts and math.
- Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC): Grades 3-8 & 11 Math and Language Arts.
- California Science Test (CAST): Grades 5, 8 & high school after final science course.
Physical Fitness Test (PFT): Grades 5, 7 & 9. - Initial or Summative English Language Proficient Assessment for California (ELPAC): For students with home languages other than English.
