Dr. Maryann Evans Bio

Dr. Maryann Evans brings over 30 years of experience in education, with a deep commitment to early childhood learning, teacher development, and student success. She currently serves as a Transitional Kindergarten teacher in Sacramento County, where she has spent the majority of her career teaching kindergarten and elementary grades while partnering closely with families to support the whole child.

Dr. Evans earned her Doctorate in Early Childhood Education from National University in 2025. Her work is grounded in creating inclusive, developmentally appropriate learning environments and fostering strong student-teacher relationships. She is passionate about mentoring new educators and has served as a clinical supervisor for student teachers, as well as an adjunct faculty member supporting pre-service teachers in curriculum and instructional practices.

Throughout her career, Dr. Evans has been recognized for her excellence in teaching and leadership, including being named Faculty of the Year at the University of Phoenix and GATE Teacher of the Year in her district. She is an active presenter at educational conferences, sharing her expertise in early math, literacy integration, and hands-on, inquiry-based learning.

Her daughter attended Cottonwood School from 6th through 12th grade, and had an incredibly positive experience throughout those years. Cottonwood provided her with unique opportunities, including the ability to take dual enrollment courses, through which she earned multiple AA and AS degrees. The school’s flexible schedule also allowed her to pursue meaningful volunteer work at the VA Hospital and a Memory Care Clinic, experiences that helped shape her passion for serving others.

Because of these opportunities, she was able to apply to medical school as a senior in high school and was accepted, securing a seat for matriculation in 2028. The supportive and flexible environment that Cottonwood provided played a significant role in her success.

It is because of this positive experience that Dr. Evans felt called to give back to the school community. Serving on the board has been a meaningful way for me to support a program that had such a profound impact on my daughter’s educational journey.
